GOOD NEWS:West Ham United have reportedly renewed their interest in Manchester United’s defender Harry Maguire, preparing a second bid of £30 million after an initial £20 million offer was declined.

Additionally, the Hammers have proposed a combined £60 million deal to acquire both Maguire and midfielder Scott McTominay, with each player valued at approximately £30 million.

Maguire, 30, joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80 million but has seen limited playing time under manager Erik ten Hag, starting only eight Premier League matches in the 2022-23 season. He was recently stripped of the captaincy, indicating a reduced role at Old Trafford. West Ham manager David Moyes is keen to bolster his defense, especially given concerns over Kurt Zouma’s injury history, and views Maguire as a valuable addition.

McTominay, 26, a product of Manchester United’s academy, has also experienced diminished playing opportunities following the arrivals of midfielders like Casemiro and Mason Mount. West Ham’s pursuit of McTominay aligns with their need to strengthen the midfield after the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The proposed transfers face challenges, particularly concerning Maguire’s wages, which increased after Manchester United’s qualification for the Champions League. Negotiations may require Manchester United to subsidize part of his salary to facilitate the move. As the transfer window progresses, West Ham remains determined to reinforce their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
